They say that you are the prettiest when you're in love. -- APINK Son Naeun
There’s something about an older girl that has always been especially charming to her. Hyeri laughs when Chaeyoung admits this to her over wine. In the dim lighting of the bar, it was easy to pretend she wasn’t laying herself bare in the presence of strangers.
“You know,” Hyeri says seriously, “it’s easier for older women to manipulate you.”
“I’m not sixteen,” Chaeyoung reminds her, pinot grigio in hand. “Also, it’s kind of too late for that.”
Last week Jisoo had her over for chimaek. “I’m on a Planet Earth kick,” she explained, loading up a new documentary episode while Chaeyoung unwrapped utensils from the delivery packaging. They ate on the couch to the sounds of a lion devouring an antelope. “Fitting, isn’t it?” Jisoo grinned, while Chaeyoung watched in open-mouthed pity. That look of sorrow was somewhat like the one Hyeri is giving her now.
Hyeri shakes her head and sighs. “You poor girl.”
It’s possible to justify anything if you like the person doing it enough. When Suzy first suggests they go on a trip together it’s exciting and new and Chaeyoung doesn’t read into it because the idea of it being anything but a pretty girl making friends with a pretty girl, or influencer networking, was impossibly foreign to her, and unnecessary. Really, there was nothing wrong with that. It was after they’d jetted to three different continents and did their makeup together in a cramped hotel bathroom, before her laugh had been captured in thirty different ways over two rolls of camera film— when Chaeyoung caught feelings and held her hand for a moment too long and Suzy suddenly knew everything— that’s when things went south. It was Chaeyoung’s fault. Of course.
“I would love to date you,” Suzy says over chocolate croissants in Paris, apropos of nothing.
Her breath hitches. Chaeyoung loses the confidence she’s practiced so hard for years to project in front of men and says, “Really?”
Suzy licks melted sugar glaze off her fingers, looks into Chaeyoung’s eyes and says, her voice as sweet as syrup, “Of course. It’ll be fun.”
Even looking back on that and reliving the memory, Chaeyoung had refused to call it malicious, because in the end she didn’t want to believe Suzy didn’t like her. “Objectively,” she told Sooyoung after the shame of it all had faded away and evolved into the need to process it with everyone she knew, “she liked being with me.”
“And I won’t deny that,” Sooyoung pointed out, “but she broke up with you because?”
배수지♡ you’re a sweet girl i hate to see you sad because of me
“She cared too much about me,” Chaeyoung said simply. “She didn’t have time for me. It was selfless, really.” Sooyoung looked at her like she couldn’t decide whether saying anything to the contrary would be beneficial at all.
“If you still talk about her like this a year after she broke your heart,” Sooyoung said, like a prophecy, “you’re never getting over her.”
[FILL] you wasted my prettiest years
