RULES
- You are not required to have a Dreamwidth account to participate. There are no signups necessary. You may post anonymously if you want.
- There will be 3 rounds of this fest, and 1 round will be opened each week of the fest. Rounds will be left open for fills and comments, so there is no deadline for participating.
- Prompts do not have to be claimed before you write them, and they can be filled by more than one person.
- Once a round is open, you can continue submitting prompts for it until the end of the fest moderation period. (Ex: On February 17 after Round 3 opens, you’re still allowed to submit prompts to Round 1 and 2.)
- There is no minimum or maximum word count for fills. In the spirit of the fest, we encourage you to write shorter works, but any length is welcome and appreciated!
- Users are allowed to crosspost their fic on any other site, such as AO3. However, we ask that when possible, writers post the text of their fills as a reply to the prompt and include a link to an AO3 post if they choose to do so, instead of just linking to an AO3 post in their comment. This helps keep discussion in our community!
- Feel free to subscribe and join the comm to keep track of updates and view them on your reading page.

It’s over gamjatang that Seeun asks, “So unnie, do you have any, like… leadership advice?”
It’s nice of her to ask, and probably optimistic to think that Sieun will delegate much, so Sumin really wants to give her a good answer and not deflect self-pityingly. Something she’s learned too recently is that there’s a line over which self-deprecation becomes outright off-putting. But apparently she takes too long to answer, because Seeun’s quick to to say, “Sorry to put you on the spot. I know it’s kind of a vague question.”
Sumin drinks some water to give herself more time to think, and says, “You’ll learn by doing it. I know that’s probably not helpful, but — you shouldn’t overthink it, I guess. Just be patient, and, uh. Fair with everyone.”
-
It’s a relief when she realizes she’s allowed to play favorites in the privacy of her own mind. Nobody can love too many people completely equally except maybe parents - and she might question even that. It’s obvious that Seeun and Jayoon just click, on the same wavelength from the first moment despite being as different as two people can be. Chaeyoung is the best older sister to Yeeun, knowing how to use a softer touch with the youngest and most sensitive of the trainees. None of them are particularly subtle about these partialities. (Sieun’s favorite person, as far as Sumin can tell, is probably ITZY’s Yeji, freshly debuted, or Yoon Chanyoung. Or IU.)
So she becomes fiercely protective of the corner of her mind where she holds Chaeyoung apart from the rest. There are things she can’t let slip in front of the instructors and management and cameras, and then there are things she can’t let slip in front of the girls. In the practice room, she is just as strict with Chaeyoung as the others - even though she’s the best dancer, isn’t she? So when she catches herself thinking that, she is twice as strict. For four years, she fails to forgive herself for the first time she makes Chaeyoung cry.
-
They’re booked to film some kind of show in Busan. It’s Chaeyoung’s hometown, so the concept is built around her, but it’s Sieun and Jayoon who are picked to tag along. Sumin doesn’t bother to be disappointed by that; it’s just sensible, when it comes to variety.
“I’ll bring you back something really nice,” Chaeyoung promises, neatly packing her suitcase. “I know where to find anything.”
She holds that in her heart every day they’re gone. The dorms are dead silent and everything is uncertain that spring, even with a new pile of trophies to their names, but she has one promise to look forward to.
And Chaeyoung returns, a little sunburned, and hands out identical hand-wrapped gifts to Sumin, Seeun, and Yeeun. It would be unimaginably childish to resent her for that, but in that dark, well-defended corner, Sumin thinks: It’s not your job be fair. No one is asking you to love everyone just the same.
Soon, it won’t be Sumin’s job anymore either, but she isn’t sure that it will matter.
-
Look, she knows that life doesn’t work like dramas, where one grandiose and monumental act means that someone is bound to love you forever. But she is the one who chased Chaeyoung down, brought her back, made her debut so she could be adored by everyone.
She can make it sound selfless if she explains it right. She mentions it too often in interviews, but her one moment of heroism plays well every time.

Re: [FILL] baby i love you (......)
i love suchae (incl the predebut lore) and i think (within the context of this fic) sumin wanting chaeyoung to care for her more, and wishing that bringing her back from busan had given chaeyoung that greater attachment to her even if rationally it didn't have to, is such a realistic selfish feeling that i relate to a little too much! thanks for writing this!
